The NAT4DD Joint Master’s Programme extends its academic and scientific network beyond the three degree-awarding universities through the active involvement of leading African Partner Universities.
Their participation brings complementary expertise in natural products, biodiversity, ethnopharmacology, medicinal plants, analytical sciences and pharmaceutical formulation, strengthening the international and interdisciplinary character of NAT4DD.
The African partners contribute to the educational activities of the programme through specialised seminars integrated into the NAT4DD curriculum. Makerere University, Eduardo Mondlane University and the University of Sfax provide specialised contributions in ethnopharmacology, introducing students to the traditional uses of medicinal plants and natural products and their scientific evaluation within modern drug discovery and development.
This component provides an important bridge between traditional knowledge, biodiversity and evidence-based pharmaceutical research, while exposing students to examples and perspectives from different African and Mediterranean regions.
The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg contributes specialised expertise in:

Across the programme, African partners participate in specialised teaching and seminar activities corresponding to their areas of scientific expertise. Overall, their contribution represents approximately six weeks of academic activities distributed across the relevant NAT4DD courses and semesters.
